What's new?

    February 2019

We have been working once again with Janak School in Gaidakot to help them build a further 4 classrooms.  These are being build onto the first floor, above the four classrooms we helped build in 2012.  The pic shows the frame and roof trusses under construction.

    January 2019

Since new year, work has been underway at Nepal Dharti School in Bandipur, to replace very old dilapidated classrooms in order to improve the education of the kids at this school.  Children of Nepal agreed to give 400,000 rupees (apx £2700) towards the rebuild of a 4-classroom block over 2 floors. See our home page for pics showing the progress of the classroom block and the basic building techniques and materials that are being used to construct these vitally needed classrooms.

    June 2018

The June 2018 newsletter, giving an update on many of the recent and current projects, has been added to the website - please go to the newsletter tab to access this.

    January 2018

Work is progressing well at Saraswati School, Tadi Mutikuri.  The ground has now been cleared around the previously erected pillars and the floor has been prepared.  Parents of children who will attend the school have been helping carry out the clearing work.  We look forward to seeing the classroom being completed in due course.

    December 2017

Trustees Nara and Sue Pandey and family visited Nepal and went to 9 schools that we are either working with or have asked us for support with classroom building projects.  We returned again to Surya Jhoti School and Mukundasen School - both of these are continuing to develop their school and classroom facilities.

    July 2017

Our Bike Ride on 8th July this year was attended by over 80 people, who collectively raised over £2500.  A great time was had by all.  Special thanks once again to the Caravan Club who supported the event by letting us use the rally field at their Ferry Meadows site as the base for our event. Thanks to Dee and Alan for donating various items for our raffle and auction - a great addition to our day and to our funds!

    November 2016

Thank you very much to all at Linx Printing Technologies, St Ives, Cambs, who nominated Children of Nepal as their charity of the month in November 2016.  Thanks to everyone, a donation of £212 was made to Children of Nepal.  We are extremely grateful for this donation and will use it to support one of our classroom building projects in Nepal.  With thanks also to Louise Morton, who kindly put forward our name to Linx.

July 2016 - Lou and Edd's Three Peaks Challenge

Lou and Edd visited Nepal in 2014 and were delighted to be able to visit Kalika School in Gaidakot, where Children of Nepal built a three classroom block in memory of Lou's Grandad, Norman Cracknell, who had the idea for the first Sponsored Bike Ride.  This year they decided to raise money by taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge (to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - in 24 hours, including driving between). It was an extremely hard challenge which they were very chuffed to complete - thank you to all their sponsors who helped them raise the amazing total of £1467!! These funds are being put towards a classroom building project in Nawal Parasi district in central Nepal.

July 2016 - Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk

We had a very successful Bike Ride and Walk at Ferry Meadows Country Park, Peterborough - the 20th consecutive year that we have held this event.  Including the joint sponsor money raised by Louise and Edd (for the Bike Ride and Three Peaks Challenge - see above), we raised £4895, which is a fantastic total.

January 2016 - Recent visit to Nepal by trustees

We have just returned from a great visit to Nepal, during which we were able to visit 20 schools and 3 villages that were affected by the earthquakes last year. We will provide further details of the visits and the work we have been carrying out in our next newsletter, which will be available shortly.  We felt extremely privileged to visit these schools and see first-hand the impact that our fundraising is having on the children attending these schools. Many of these schools were well off the beaten track and we had to travel on difficult unmade roads to get to them - it was well worth it! Thank you to everyone who helped us and for all the hospitality we received.

July 2015 - Walking the Cumbria Way for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal

Sheila Bull and Linda Marshall set out with two friends on 2nd July 2015 to walk 73 miles in five days from Ulverston in south Cumbria to Carlisle in the north. The walk goes through the middle of the Lake District and is not usually known for good weather but they amazingly managed to escape the rain during that time.  Linda had raised money for Children of Nepal when she did the Cumbria Way for the first time about 18 years ago and, when she found out that Sheila was planning a trip, thought it would be good to raise money again, this time for those in Nepal who are victims of the recent earthquakes.

Five days and some blisters later they all walked triumphantly into the square in Carlisle.  To date they have raised apx £600 - a fantastic achievement, both in terms of completing the walk and raising funds!!  Not bad for a pair of pensioners (their words, not ours)!

    January 2014
We have recently returned from a successful visit to Nepal, where we were able to visit some recently completed projects as well as assess a number of new project proposals. Further details are available in our February 2014 Newsletter.

    January 2013
We are pleased to announce that the 8 project
s that we agreed to fund during 2012 have recently been completed.  We visited these schools in December 2011 to confirm their needs and agree the level of financial support that we could give and are delighted that good progress has been made at all these schools. Further details can be found under the Projects tab.

    September 2012
We have recently received a donation of £5000 from the estate of a donor who left a sum of money in her will to be directed towards education projects in Nepal.  We are extremely grateful for this donation which is enabling us to support two schools with classroom building projects that are desperately needed.  The projects are at Janata Secondary School, Nandavauju, Kolhua-7 and Deurali Primary School, Ale, Ratanpur-8 and both are due to commence shortly.

    July 2012
Thank you very much to all those who came along to our Sponsored Bike and Walk on 14th July to raise much needed funds for Children of Nepal, especially after we had to change our plans at the last minute due to the bad weather the day before. Luckily on the day of our event, we had a dry day and all had a great bike, walk and Bar-B-Q! A special well done to friends Jenny and Peter who couldn't bike with us, but did cycle 40 and 27 miles respectively in poor weather to raise money - gold medals to you two for your effort!  We were delighted to raise a total of £2100, so thank you very much for your sponsorship and donations.

    March 2012
We held a very successful Cake Stall at Fenstanton and Hilton Primary School in March which was planned and organised by Gaby and Asha (well done girls).  We raised a fantastic £170 (over about 30 minutes, which must be a record!). Thank you to all those who baked, especially Birgitta, and to all who bought the delicious cakes.

    February 2012
During our recent visit to Nepal, we were able to visit many of the schools where we have projects inprogress or recently completed as well as a number of schools making new requests for help, including some in more rural areas. Photos from the visit can be found on this link:
